Getting Ready

The new week is here and we are getting ready for all that is ahead. Preschool is going to be GREAT this week with baby lambs, baby chicks and a bunny visit! Then we will be having Easter Egg Hunts the last two days since spring break is next week. SOOOO fun!

Eli is still refusing the bottle, so he gets to come on our field trip. It all works out. It would be nice to get him taking the bottle again. We will be trying again, but really I dislike pumping... just one more thing to try and get done. Then I have to clean it all. Too much work. Nursing is just so much easier.

Hannah and Isaac are fully recovered and Eli managed to stay healthy. Yippee! Aaron and I stayed well too.

Aaron is off to school to plan for his week and I just finished planning for preschool. Laundry is waiting and the house could use all kinds of misc. cleaning. We'll see if I get to it or not. I plan on being in bed by 9pm tonight. I've been incredibly tired the past few days and need some extra sleep. Oh, Eli slept for 8 straight hours last night! He went down at 7:30, so he woke up at 3:30, but still!!! I am so excited for a good sleeper. I hope and pray this keeps up!

Refusing the Bottle

Yep, Eli has refused it. Next week the preschool has two filed trips, so I was hoping Eli would take the bottle from Alex and we would be set. So I woke up early this morning to pump. He refused to take it. No interest at all. Stink. We'll try again tomorrow. If he still refuses, either I will nurse right before we leave or he and Alex will be coming along for the ride. He has taken a bottle a couple of times before, so I know he can do it. He's just being a stinker about it. I think he knows I will be out of the building and he doesn't want to miss out on any fun.

Eli had his 3 month pictures taken today. I can't wait to see how they turned out!

Hannah's Love Book

Hannah stayed home from school again today, but is feeling much better and will be back to school tomorrow. While she was home with Daddy today she wrote a book and bound it with tape. It is titled "My Love Book." Each page has a wonderful heart illustration. Here are the word she wrote...

(Page 1) I love my ants and ankls!
(Page 2) I love Mimi and Papa!
(Page 3) I love you Mimi Mrsee and Papa Jon!
(Page 4) I love my famoly! (The heart has the names Isaac, Mom, Dad, Eli, Me)
(Page 5) I love you Isaac!
(Page 6) Eli and Dad and Mom I love you.

This little book is a keeper! What a fabulous daughter we have... so full of love!

Sometimes I'm Such a Dork

I am really good at talking with kids. I have no problems communicating with young children. I even communicate with babies quite well. But, when it comes to adults, I'm not so good. Sometimes I do just fine, but other times I'm just a complete dork. I find myself stumbling over words and going blank quite often. Sometimes things come out of my mouth completely wrong and then I feel VERY dorkish. I find it is worse when I am tired... it is like my mind doesn't want to function at a level that adult interaction can be successful. I was tired today, and yes, I had several dork moments. Sorry to anyone who was the recipient of my dorkiness today. I am very much a person who needs lots and lots of grace. I am so thankful for the grace given to me through Jesus because I would be lost without it!

I've also been contemplating what it means to savor life. I brought a new children's book to share with Marilyn at church. She read through it slowly and deliberately. She loved it and said, "I just was savoring the words and pictures." How wonderful! That got me thinking about what I savor. I try to savor moments with my children, but that doesn't always happen. Lately I haven't even been able to savor my meals because Eli is usually needing to eat too and if I don't want to be famished, I scarf down my food before it's too late. I want to savor life... how do I slow things down enough to savor those delicious moments in my life? It will require deliberate chewing, slowing down to not rush the moment. I'd love to be an expert savorer. How do you savor life?

One more thing... I've found a new cloth diaper that is great! It fits babies 7-35 pounds as it has lots of snaps to adjust size. Eli feels very dry in them and is very comfortable when wearing them. They are easy to clean too. I must admit, I'm not doing cloth as often as I did with my other two. It does take more time than disposables. But cloth is less expensive and I like the cloth against Eli's skin rather than chemicals and stuff. I wish I could say I was doing cloth for the environment, but it's really more for Eli and our wallet! The environment smiles too, so that's a bonus. Anyway, I really like that these will expand with Eli and I won't be purchasing lots of different sizes as he grows.

So those are some thought from my day. I have lots of time to think as I drive each day... maybe too much!

Decorating (and eating) Sugar Cookies

What else makes sense on a day home sick? (not the stomach flu)
I love a good deal. I bought several packages of sugar cookie mix on clearance after Valentines day for 25 cents a package! All we had to do was add one egg and butter. I always substitute Smart Balance Light in my sugar cookies because it makes them very fluffy and soft. So, I made cookies (not wanting to cook with Hannah germs) and the kids decorated their own cookies. YUMMY! And I just LOVE a good deal that makes a fun and easy project with the kids.

I have a sick little girl at home. I picked her up from school today and she looked so tired and pale. Fever of 101.5, BLAST. She says her throat hurts and she can't talk very well, plus she has really red feet. We are going to the clinic in the morning. Praying that the boys and I don't catch it.

I have survived my time without Aaron, and actually so far I think I've done quite well. Last night the kids were asleep by 8pm and I cleaned the kitchen, did laundry and a few other little projects. I got to sleep by 10:45 and set the alarm for 5:30am. I must admit that I hit the snooze button until 6:10am... but we still made it out the door by 7:30. Not bad.

I was so very happy to find a treat in my email, a free rental from redbox at Dissmores. So, I decided to get a movie that Aaron would not want to watch... a romance. So feeling pretty good about myself and the fact that I was going to get a girly movie for free and get to watch it without any unnecessary comments from the love of my life, I went into Dissmores to get a movie. I decided on The Time Traveler's Wife. The previews made me cry, so I'm sure I'll need my tissues. Anyway, I did the whole redbox thing and realized I did not put the code in and ended up paying the dollar for my free movie. Grrr. Not one to waste a freebie I got a movie for the kids. Isaac was quite excited about this as I had told him we were just getting a Mommy movie. Now my free rental will end up costing several dollars as I will not be going back to Pullman until Sunday since Hannah is home sick. Oh well, at least I still get my chic flick!

So it is 7:15 and two of my kids are asleep. Isaac is up in bed reading books. He'll be out fairly soon and then I can make myself a mocha and start my movie. Oops, Eli is crying. This may not be as simple as first thought! Nevertheless, I will watch my not-so-free movie sometime before the night is done.

A Good Day

Today was a just plain good day! Preschool was phenomenal! We had such a fabulous time in the classroom. Isaac had one of the best day he has had in a long time. He's had some struggles since Eli was born... not so much with Eli, but with other areas in his life. He seems to be coming out of it. This is very good! Eli had his first really good day with the babysitter. Whew! I've really been hoping and praying he would get into the new swing of things, and it looks like he may have done just that (knock on wood!).

Hannah and Isaac are getting along well this afternoon and I just put in a pizza for dinner. The only not-so-good thing today is that Aaron just left for a few days of school stuff. I really don't like having him gone. I don't sleep as well, and I miss his company. I also will be missing his partnership tomorrow morning as I try to get us out the door on time! I'm guessing I will get a lot of stuff done tonight, because I usually try to keep myself busy while he is gone.

Isaac is beginning to get excited about his upcoming birthday which is now just one month away. He is thinking about what kind of party he wants to have and what kind of presents he is hoping for. Today he told me he hopes he gets spiderman dice. Anyone know where to find this?

So, I'm hoping for a smooth and easy evening tonight. I'm sure I'll do just fine.

A Messy House

I have decided that a messy house is a sign of an attentive and loving mother. It means that more of my time goes to the needs of my children. I will have lots of years to have a perfectly kept house, but not all that many with young children full of energy and the desire to play with me. So, yes my house is messy right now and I'm willing to live with that! Remind me of that tomorrow!

I'm not so sure about the weather we are having. This weekend was glorious! In the high 50's maybe even lower 60's. We had the doors open and enjoyed the sunshine. So where did this rain/snow come from??? Hmmmm, I like the warmer stuff better. Hope it comes back soon.

Growing, Growing, Growing

Growing So Fast

All my kids are growing so fast! Hannah, my 6 year old darling, lost her third tooth today! She has the cutest new smile and I smile every time she talks. She lost the upper tooth sometime during the night and it was no where to be found... she must have swallowed it. No, I will not be keeping my eye out for it in the toilet. She wrote a letter to the tooth fairy explaining why the tooth was not available for the normal exchange. Very cute.

Isaac is now able to pump himself on the swing set. We all rejoice! He is super excited about it and is enjoying his new found freedom. He is, and will always be, my silly, happy little boy! Such a fun kid.

Eli is getting bigger by the second! He is smiling so much, talking to his adoring family members and occasionally someone else (he likes Ann, Marilyn and Dudley at church). He is very strong. He enjoys standing and holding weight on his legs. He loves to roll from his tummy to his back and he can get from his back to his side. He hasn't rolled to his tummy yet, but it's not far off. He has little conversations with hanging toys and like to bat at them to see what they will do about it! Cute, cute, cute!

I'm entering my second week back at work. It has gone well. I am finding myself a bit more tired and my house is somewhat neglected. Oh well. We will survive some dirty dishes. The mornings really go by fast. I keep busy with the preschoolers and Eli comes down to eat. The last two days last week went very well, so I am hoping we are getting into a new routine.

I am a bit concerned about the end of the week. Aaron leaves on Wednesday afternoon for the west side. He doesn't' return until Saturday, so I am on my own for a few days. My only concern is getting everyone ready and fed and out the door by 7:20am. This will be tricky. I'll have to have as much a possible ready the night before and wake up early enough to get a shower and myself ready before the kids wake up. Say a prayer for me!

We Did It!

Today was my first official day back at work, in the classroom. We were all ready and out of the house by 7:20am. Amazing! Preschool went great! It was so much fun to be back with the kids. There were a few small bumps with Eli, but all in all he had a fairly good morning with Alex. It should get easier for him every day. He is getting to know Alex and she is getting to know him, so it is coming together.

Isaac was incredibly happy to have me back in the classroom. He had a fabulous day at preschool. I was so happy to see him being such a good listener and friend!

I am really excited about a purchase I made today off of craigslist. I bought a Moby wrap! I've wanted one but didn't want to spend the money. Well this one was a GREAT deal, and holy smokes!!! I should have bought one 6 years ago. It is the most comfortable sling I have ever worn. Eli loves it and did I say it was comfortable? I can't wait to use it more and more. I couldn't be happier about it!

So tomorrow is another day in the classroom. I'm looking forward to it.
