Eli is a baby, like most babies, who thrives on routine. He LOVES his routine, especially his nighttime routine. It begins promptly at 6pm. He begins to get fussy because he wants his bath. So, I take him to the changing table and begin to strip him down. He starts to get very excited and kicks all around. Then he begins to fuss a little bit because I'm not moving fast enough. As soon as he is naked, I pick him up and he grins, grins, grins. In the baby bath tub he goes where he splashes, kicks, waves his arms and lets out of the best baby belly laughs you will ever hear. He loves his bath time. I take him out, dry him off, put lotion on (which he totally enjoys) and get him dressed. I tell him what a sweet baby he is and give him kisses. Now he WANTS TO NURSE. This is something he WILL NOT wait for. If he doesn't get what he wants as soon as he thinks he needs it, we most certainly become aware of it because the other two kids are covering their ears and telling me that Eli needs to nurse! He eats and is off to sleepy land for the night. Ahhhh...
Well, tonight that routine got a bit interrupted, not by much, but enough. I was getting ready to take Eli out of the tub and Isaac came into the bathroom wondering if he could have dessert. He hadn't finished his dinner by the time Eli was ready to start his journey to sandland. I told Isaac to ask Dad. Isaac told me Dad told him to ask me. (This is happens frequently). Aaron came in and took Eli out of the bath so I could inspect the dinner plate and see if Isaac was eligible for a piece of Easter chocolate. That's when I heard it. You would have thought that Eli had been dropped, scratched by the cat, or some other kind of great trauma. I ran into the bedroom to find Aaron laying on the bed with Eli on his tummy. Eli was MAD. This was NOT part of his normality. It took a few minutes for me to calm him down, and he was not at all happy with me that I had handed him off to Daddy. I quickly got him dressed while he glared at me. When we got to the rocking chair you would have thought that he had been starved all day. All I can say it I am glad this child does not yet have teeth!
