Sadly, yesterday ended the week long stay of my mother-in-law. We love having Mimi Marci visit, and time always goes by too fast. I took the day off from work to take her back to the airport. The trip up went quite well, both boys took naps and did great in the van. We said good-bye at the airport and went to lunch. This too went very smoothly and Isaac got to play at the playland while I nursed Eli. Then we headed to Walmart... things began to go downhill. Eli was getting fussy and exploded in his diaper, luckily before we got inside. I changed him in the van and tried for the store again. In the store he spit up ALL OVER himself. Isaac decided he needed to go to the bathroom. I think it was more that he wanted to use the little kid sized toilet. After the bathroom break I tried to remember what I needed to get... because I had forgotten my list. Eli was crying but finally fell asleep. Isaac kept licking the cart... GROSS. I still don't understand why he would even think licking the cart would be a good idea. I put bananas in the cart and Isaac proceeded to take the banana bunch apart. I bagged some apples that later fell all over due to a whole in the bag. It was raining, hailing, totally windy outside and I kept dropping things in my fervor to get everything in the van. Luckily I didn't drop the kids.
We left Walmart and started our trip home. Eli began to all out scream, so about 5 minutes late I pulled over and attempted to feed him. He snacked but all he wanted to really do was grin and me and chat. SO we did this for about 10 minutes and I put him back in the car seat. Again he began to scream. I thought he was going to choke. So I pulled over again and held him for a little longer. He wanted to nurse, so we tried this again. After a minute or two all he wanted to do was grin and chat. I thought to myself... "This is going to take a long time to get home." I put him back in the car seat and he fell asleep. HOORAY!!!
The road home from Spokane isn't an easy road for passing slow vehicles, and wouldn't you know, I got stuck behind one. A passing lane came up and the slow vehicle refused to move to the "slow" lane. I was a bit irritated, and moved to the slow lane to pass on the wrong side. I passed without any trouble but I was still irritated at this person's inability to follow the rules of the road. It had rained and was still slightly raining, so I wasn't using my cruise control. About 10 minutes later I had lights flashing behind me. CURSES!!! I was being pulled over. What was I saying before about some else's inability to follow the rules of the road? I was humbled and embarrassed. The patrol officer was a very kind man and gave me a warning. Isaac thought it was so cool to see the police officer and that mommy got pulled over. He couldn't wait to tell Daddy. The cherry on top of the ice cream was that Eli woke up because we had stopped moving. Back to the screaming.
We eventually made it home, safe a sound. Isaac told Daddy how naughty Mommy had been and that she was driving WAY TOO FAST. Hannah had a little grin on her face, but didn't laugh at me. Ahhh, I think they loved it that Mommy got in trouble for being naughty.
While we were gone, the house had a showing. I'm hoping they really liked it. We'll just have to wait and see.
Oh Becky, I love that story! I can totally relate! Sometimes I think it's good for our kids to see how we handle our own mistakes. :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a long day! You are always welcome to give me a call when you're in Spokane. You can sit and nurse and let Eli stretch and Isaac and Hannah can play with the boys. The door is always open!
